Choosing a Runescape Weapon on Free-to-Play

Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

knight21.gif CHOOSING THE RIGHT WEAPON FOR YOUR CHARACTER INVOLVES YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE and YOUR RUNESCAPE COMBAT STATISTICS.

You can choose from a great number of weapons to use on the free world, many more are available on members’ worlds, however, this site at the present time focuses on free world play, so I will only list free world weapons here.

Each weapon type is available in all of the metal materials available on Runescape.

Depending on your character’s current Strength level, you can use weapons made of different types of material from the weakest (bronze) to the strongest (runite). There are stronger weapons such as Dragon, etc., but again for the purpose of this guide we are talking about stuff available on F2P (free-to-play).

Here are the levels of Strength you need to be in order to use weapons made of the various materials available:

1 -  Bronze and Iron

5 -  Steel

10 -  Black (Cannot be smithed, only purchased or acquired through monster drops)

20 -  Mithril

30 -  Adamantium

40 - Runite (Rune)

(And 60 for Dragon items on members)

Attack speed of weapons rate currently on Runescape from 1  to  6 , on a one to ten scale, one being the slowest, six is the fastest currently available attack speed at the writing of this post. This effects how many attacks you will do per combat turn.

________________________________________________________________

dagger.jpg  DAGGERS - Attack Speed: 6 OUT OF 6

daggerru.gif These wimpy little weapons are pretty much useless on free worlds unless you are killing extremely low level critters. Daggers come in to serious play when you can apply Poison to them or you can get Defence daggers, both of which are on members worlds.  If you have nothing else to use, stab away!

__________________________________________________________

shortytorty1.jpg  SHORTSWORDS - Attack Speed: 6 OUT OF 6

swordshortbro.gif A beginner’s weapon of choice, this little guy is fast at stabbing and slashing and is inexpensive. Available in metals from bronze to adamantium at the sword shop in Varrok. Rune shortswords can be acquired at the Grand Exchange.

__________________________________________________________

logswordfuck.jpg  LONGSWORDS - Attack Speed: 5 OUT OF 6

longggg.jpg  Though a bit slower than shortswords on attack, this weapon will deal a bit more damage and also offers the option of using “controlled” attack, which splits experience gained between Attack, Strength, and Defence. These weapons are available at the same places as the shortsword, again at reasonable prices and are used widely by low level characters.

________________________________________________________________

  project_scimitar1.jpg SCIMITARS - Attack Speed: 6 OUT OF 6

scimmy.bmp Now we come to the scimitar. This fast attacking weapon that deals good damage  has become somewhat of a phenomenon on the free world. Most Melee players nowadays on the free worlds can be seen weilding a “Scimmy” of some type. The Rune Scimitar has become almost a standard weapon among higher level players on Free-to-Play (F2P) worlds. It’s relatively high damage and quick speed have made it a definitive favorite weapon for higher level players .

________________________________________________________________

mace_paulchen2.jpg  MACES - Attack Speed: 5 OUT OF 6

maceru.gif  Maces are cool weapons that are especially effective when fighting characters or monsters wearing Plate Mail, Such as White or Black Knights, when put on the Crush mode of combat. These hard hitting weapons also have a Prayer bonus that will enhance by a percentage your prayer skill. This is also only one of two weapons available on free worlds that offers a “controlled” setting that trains all three combat skills at once.

________________________________________________________________

battleaxe.jpg  BATTLEAXES - Attack Speed: 4 OUT OF 6

addybaxe.gif  Though slower to attack than swords, this is a powerful weapon. Other than a scimitar, Battleaxes are especially popular with melee combatants. I personally did a great deal of training with this weapon, especially when in the higher levels of gaining Strength. This weapon packs alot of punch and still allows for use of a shield. Great for cracking open armor.

________________________________________________________________

hammer.jpg

WARHAMMERS - Attack Speed: 4 OUT OF 6

warhammerru.gifThe Warhammer is not as popular as the battleaxe for some reason, but I find the damage to be just about the same when training on strength. When I am not using a 2-handed sword to upgrade my strength, I enjoy wielding a Rune Warhammer, perhaps just because it is a unique weapon. This and the battleaxe are the hardest hitting, but slowest to use weapons except for the big bad 2 handed sword.

________________________________________________________________

swordsman1.jpg

2-HANDED SWORDS - Attack Speed: 3 OUT OF 6

2handedzy1.gif Two-handers are the most powerful weapons available on the free worlds. The might of these Great Swords comes with 2 drawbacks, however. For one thing, you cannot use a shield with them, as their weight makes the use of 2 hands neccesary. They also attack slowly. But if you have a high Strength rating, these bad boys pack one helluva whollop.

________________________________________________________________

Whatever weapon you eventually settle on, all of these weapons are fun to use, and you should experiment and see which one you are the most happy with. You may want to switch around depending on what type of creature you are combatting.

Runescape Training on Skeletons coated in Jello?

Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

msgankou.png

The Security Dungeon’s deepest levels offer some great training for mid to high level players on the free worlds.

ankou.gif  ANKOU   The “ghostly Aura” around these Skelts looks like tasty jello.

These level 75 creatures are found on the lowest level of the security dungeon. The entrance to this is in Barbarian village. (see the “getting to know the cities” section on this site for more info) They drop excellent treasure including law runes, nature runes, mithril and addy arrows and the left half skull needed to make a bone staff which will teleport you to the entrance of the dungeon and is also a cool looking thing to carry around when doing tasks like crafting, etc. A section of this staff is found on each level.

These Ankou, a word which means “spirit of the dead” or something similar in many real-life cultural legends, are an excellent place to train and collect expensive goodies, their top drop is a Rune Medium Helmet. They also drop noted mithril ores and rune essence on free world and even better stuff like blood runes on the members worlds. The room pictured above has both Ankou and standard Runescape ghosts. But I prefer the room with strictly Ankou only. This room is the immediate chamber to the north as you enter the lowest level of the Security Dungeon.

Deciding on your main Runescape Combat Skill (Continued)

Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

Last post we were discussing the pros and cons of each of Runescape’s three combat styles that will control how you gain combat levels. We discussed the Magic user or Mage option, now let’s move on.

archer.jpg  RANGERS

If you decide to utilize Ranging as your main combat skill, or you just want to use Range as a backup, or simply need to raise the skill in order to accomplish certain quest criteria, you will most likely find it pretty fun. Maybe not, I have to admit that it is my least favorite of the three combat styles, but that may well be due to the fact that most of my Runescape career thus far has been on the free world, where weapon and ammunition types are limited. Also, as a member you have the opportunity to use the Fletching skill, where you can craft and use your own arrows and weapons.

A fantastic aspect of this skill however, is that as a lower level character, you can attack high level creatures by taking advantage of “hiding” spots that are available in  nearly all monster training areas. For instance in the volcano on Kajarma in the Lesser Demon training area past the red spiders, there are two safe spots on the left as you enter that area where you can let loose arrows on these level 79 baddies and if you are in the safe zones they will not be able to attack you back.

So a level 23 dude could kill these and collect their treasure, but be sure to bring food, as they will swipe at you as you run out to collect the goodies dropped.

Rangers, like mages, are an integral part of team play, where attacking from a distance is invaluable. A Ranger can dump arrows into an enemy while the melee guys attack and block enemies from getting him. Arrows are easily bought in the archery shop in Varrok on free worlds, or at the grand exchange. Members worlds have multiple ways to acquire arrows and lots of cool bows, as well as using fletching to craft your own stuff.

Again one of the big plusses is the safety zone of long range arching-I know plenty of Rangers who go to train and don’t even worry about carrying food because they simply aren’t getting hit. Experiment before you try this, as you have to see for yourself where these safe ranging spots are in the various training areas in Runescape.

All in all, Ranging is a great thing to master for an all around balanced character and a pure is an extremely coveted part of combat teams,  especially in CLANS.

Now let’s look at the final and probably most popular class: Melee Based characters…

blackorc04.jpg MELEE MELEE WARRIORS ARE PROBABLY THE MOST PROLIFIC CLASS IN THE GAME. Unlike the shirtless badass above, all you need is a good set of  Armor and your favorite weapon!  Melee is for up close and personal ass kicking!

Yep, being cheap and simple may be the reason most players gain combat levels through melee. No need to worry about collecting or buying Runes or arrows, just your trusty weapon and armor and you are all set. (..and food of course.)

I use all three skills to some degree, but whether you decide to be a “pure” or not, always remember that the point of playing is to have fun. So do what you enjoy-and become a Runescape Junkie like me! See you next time.

Deciding on your main Runescape Combat Skill.

Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

new-runescape-pic.jpg PLAYING THE ODDS ON RUNESCAPE REQUIRES ALOT OF TOUGH DECISION MAKING IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A POWERFUL AND SUCCESFUL HIGH LEVEL CHARACTER.

My character HAVOKSLINGER  is a Melee based character. Melee is the term used for killing stuff using handheld weapons like swords, scimitars, battleaxes, warhammers, and all other weapons that can cut, slash, pummel or stab. I suppose the main reason I use this as my main skill is simply because I dig the in-your-face aspect of wasting various enemies on the game using Melee. I am not what is considered a “pure“, meaning only one combat skill is used exclusively, whether it be Melee, Magic, or Ranging- I use all three. My magic skill is pretty strong, but my range is weak for my level.

The real decision you have to make is which skill you enjoy using the most. I prefer to kill things up close and personal so MOST OF MY KILLS ARE DONE USING MELEE. THIS MEANS THAT I CAN ONLY GAIN COMBAT LEVELS WITH DAMAGE DONE USING MELEE. I still get experience on my Magic or Range when I use spells or shoot arrows or crossbow bolts, and I still get Hitpoint experience, but because statistically I’m a Melee guy, my combat can only be raised by gaining levels in Strength, Attack or Defense using hand-held weapons other than bow and arrow or crossbow. (or other thrown weapons such as knives or spears, etc. on members)

There are pros and cons to all three combat styles. Let’s have a look at the advantages or disadvantages of the three Runescape combat types:

blackrobewizard.jpg MAGIC USERS

Mages can be extremely powerful characters and the graphics and sound effects present when casting spells make it a really fun and exciting way to incapacitate and destroy monsters or other characters. The wide range of spells available on free and members worlds can be devastating. When combatting melee-based characters or monsters that use armor or have no magic resistance, spellcasting is an extremely powerful tool.

Even if you are not a pure mage player, Magic is extremely useful and sometimes almost neccesary to kill certain creatures or complete certain Runescape Quests. Now that the days of wandering the Wilderness and Player Killing (PKing) are over due to the advent of Bounty Hunting, I would imagine fewer players opt to be a pure mage, however when killing either monsters or other players as a TEAM or CLAN, having a powerful magic user in your group is awesome.

The only drawbacks are basically two;

One is that you are physically pretty weak when face to face with melee monsters or characters without having either something to hide behind or other players to protect you from direct attacks, because you cannot wear armor without diminishing the accuracy and effect of your spells.

The other thing is that in order to cast spells, you need Magic Runes. These can be acquired by buying them from Magic shops or the Grand Exchange in Varrock, or by creating them using the Runecrafting Skill. You can also collect them from many, many monsters. Buying them obviously costs money, and Runecrafting them requires time invested in getting Rune Essence (using the same methods as completed Runes).

These things however are well worth the time and effort if you desire a powerful wizard and enjoy using Magic to obliterate your enemies.

Next post we will look at Ranging and Melee pros and cons and look into how you want to invest yout time developing your Runescape character. Till then, enjoy the game and I’ll see you next time.

Millions Without Runescape Cheat Codes (GUEST POST)

Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

Runescape is very different than real life (obviously). In runescape, you will find that whatever you say will not be taken seriously at first. If you ask someone to be your runescape friend, they might assume you’re a moocher and only talking because you’re after their runescape items.

This might suprise you, but getting rich is nowhere near as difficult as you think it is. For example, I can make a few million a day easily and you can too. It will take you a while to get yourself to that kind of level, but with practice and the knowledge that I can give you, you’ll be there in no time. I’ve revealed a few money making “cheats” throughout this article to get you started, the rest are at my website.

You run a great risk of being caught by the game, being ripped off for $ 20 the” low, low” asking price most sites charge.

Basically, you can lie and cheat and steal all you want while playing Runescape… no one really cares. Dishonesty might give you a quick short term benefit but believe me it will always catch up with you later. So to win big in Runescape set honest prices, help people out, and you’ll be rewarded time after time.

So all in all, IF YOU TRY TO CHEAT, you’re going to lose big time. Don’t ever try to buy someone elses account because they will end up scamming you and on top of that, I also strongly advise again powerleveling your characters (If such a thing exists for runescape).

This guide can help you make money regardless of your combat level and / or starting money. The most important thing is that you will not be using any Runescape Cheat. Read this thoroughly to learn the secrets of making money without jeopardizing your game or using Runescape Cheat.

Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

Runescape is very addictive game, which has recently just hit over 1 millions users. This article will focus on the gameplay and style of the popular online role playing game Runescape.

Membership

There 2 levels of membership in the game Runescape. The first being the Free to play or know as many as F2P, there are no membership fees and players can play the game for free.

The second, membership level is Pay to play or P2P. This is the section we will focus mostly on in this article.

This membership level is a completely optional service, which allows the user access to additional game features and content that the free to play players do not have access too. There is an extreme addition to the games content, such as a lot more content, quests, player skills, and a lot more to the playing world. Members also gain access to many mini-games with unique rewards; they also get to use many new in game items, such as armor and weapons. On top of the extra content, members also receive a larger bank to store there items and money in. Paid users also have access to post in the official Runescape forums, and also receive priority customer support over free players.

Members are granted access to special member’s only servers, which contain no in game advertisements displayed during play.

Gameplay

When players sign up for an account they start the game on Tutorial Island. This island takes roughly a half an hour to complete. On this island the new players will be taught how to use the controls of the game, by simple live walkthrough examples. After completing the tutorial, players will then be able to go the main land of Runescape, and begin real game play with the thousands of other in game players.

RuneScape has many sound effects, and the in game music, often changes with the user reaches new game areas. This music is meant to enhance mood and gameplay for the players. Aggregation Of Runescape Wisdom (GUEST POST)

Do you visit Runescape related forums and sites often? Do you go to only one site or several? How about loyalty to a particular fan site? Is it a good thing? I think not, at least not at the degree it is done nowadays.

What I noticed while participating on several major Runescape forums is that there is an undeclared ‘cold war’ between Runescape fan sites. While it is somewhat understandable, it still saddens me a lot.

The world gets more open every day, boundaries between countries and cultures get erased, free and open software and services are everywhere, but we keep and keep building new boundaries and walls. As an owner of a smaller Runescape fan site (Runewise) I can see these walls very clearly. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and try to get any kind of partnership with a bigger site! In most cases you won’t even get a polite refusal – just silent emptiness. Well, I am a big boy and can cope with it. But another aspect of this ‘war’ is Runescape knowledge being scattered and hidden. There are so many interesting articles, blogs, guides, posts, topics out there behind those walls.

I can’t help with ‘boundaries’, but at least I can point Runescape players to most interesting materials out there regardless on what fan site or blog they are located. That is it. My mission statement right there…

So, here I am with my Runescape wisdom ‘aggregation’ blogs.
This is the older one I maintain at Runewise: http://www.runewise.net/rs/rdigest.php
And the newest addition for regular bloggers at Blogspot: http://runescapereader.blogspot.com/

Welcome! And if you would like to point me to an interesting Runescape related source, by all means, please, let me know!

Runescape Dungeons ~ Ice Giants and their minions. (Who happen to be higher level)

Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

ice_giant.gifThese Icy bad boys will help raise your Prayer skill if you bury their Big Bones!

Enter the Runescape Ice Caves to face these Big Bone dropping Giants. A superb way to train on Prayer. Their drops include some cool stuff like Black Kite Shields, Mithril Square Shields and, what I went there for, Nature Runes, among other things. This here hole in the ground is sometimes a forgotten treasure chest! I have to admit -I neglected to come to this special place for almost a year because I was so caught up with killing Lessers (Lesser Demons) to get into the higher level combat skills, and it was nice to get back here for a change of scenery and certainly to get alot of free Law Runes and Nature Runes as well! The real challenge is that the Ice Warriors ice-warrior.png  (Very good combat experience on them-and they also drop a lot of good stuff) will relentlessly attack you until you have been in the Ice cave for around 20 minutes or so. They basically stop you from getting to attack the lower level Ice Giants who are easier to kill. But the combat exp. and pretty fun visuals make it a worthwhile character building scenario.

This small dungeon has a good range and combination of monsters, and almost any level will find som fun and rewarding battles down in the depths.

To get there go south from Falador or Port Sarim past the church and the jail (recharge your prayer points at the altar at the church if you need to) You will see a red Dungeon exclamation point icon. Enter there and you will encounter low level muggers.

Beyond them deeper in the cavern is a room full of colorful pirates to beat up on. pirate.jpg For lower level training the pirates are great fun and they drop pretty well. Their re-designed attack movements are cool to watch as they attack. The hallways on the way into the Runescape Ice Cave also are patrolled by Hobgoblins you can train on. Hobs drop occasional nature runes and also Limpwurt root, which you can collect to make Strength potions in Varrok. Enjoy the area, and if you train there for a while and need to make bank runs, the closest way to a bank is to cut through the dock area at Port Sarim and go east throught the gate  to Draynor Village’s bank.

Till next time. I will soon set up an e-mail, so if you see something on this site and like it,  e-mail your comments when I open a Yahoo adress!
