curse-monkey-island-11.jpg Snakes, pissed-off monkeys and danger await on the Isle of Kajarma!

Okay, you’ve had a little boat ride, so get your land legs back by checking out the banana plantation and a cool jungle area where you can train on snakes, giant scorpions or even monkeys. this is a fun place to hang out and fish and train. At my level of 105 this is where I spend most of my time training. Until I go to a members world (I am not a member as of now) This is the most efficient training place on the free worlds (F2P) and you will see that once you are in the 70 to 80 combat range, this is the place to come and train inside the volcano to the west of the banana farm.

If you are a timid traveler do not go in to the opening marked with an exclamation point on the mini-map. If you are the brave type and are carrying food, take a look inside there are skeletons, a great gold mining area, and cool stuff to see. But be sure to put on the RUN feature because you may have to run like hell! Watch out for the huge red spiders.

NOTE: you can pick all the bananas you want from the banana trees and they heal 2 Hitpoints each! Free food is rare in the lands so take advantage of it and kill some stuff here and collect some goodies or enough gold for the return trip to the mainland.

You will have noticed a dock with all sorts of fishing spots twinkling by it. There is almost always someone at this dock on any world at any time, so its fun to fish and chat (or not, lol)  but you will need to be a fairly high level to catch the lobster, tuna and swordfish that swim freely around this dock. (Use the chart that pops up when you click on your FISHING icon on your skills list to see what levels of fishing you need to be.)

You’ll see a general store, a Quest start area and a tavern, but you’ll notice there is no bank! So if you come to fish here be sure you bring the right fishing equipment and everything you need. If you’re training here, this will include an axe and a tinderbox- if you want to cook your own fish to gain Cooking experience. Some people just fish and wait for others to start a fire. This will also be a good place later if you want to fish and sell the fish or lobsters to the general store to raise money. A pretty good way to start getting some decent cash.

Looking at the World map, notice how HUGE the island of Kajarma is. Now look at the volcano and the little area of Musa Point where we are. That’s all your gonna get to see on free folks!  lol!  But don’t worry, there will be plenty to keep you busy for quite some time. It’s very good to raise the basic skills here on F2P.

Take a last look at that Volcano where you will kill a green dragon in Dragonslayer Quest and at last get to wear the full Rune Armor!  Ok, let’s head back to the docks and get up the fare somehow (Gotcha!) and head back to Port Sarim. There are many creative ways to find your way back if you think I got you stuck there! See the NOTE above.

See you at the other dock and then its time for some Draynor action!

Port Sarim and Your First Voyage on Runescape’s Seas!

ship_10932.jpg Cross the Runescape world via paid Gallion rides!

We’re about two-thirds of the way through this guided tour of the Runescape map, and we’re going to take a little detour to the Island of Kajarma! A neat island where you will do much training and in the later levels you will come here to at last slay a dragon and gain both the ability to wear Rune Armor and be able to fight Lesser Demons and other scary stuff.

For now head to the Docks you will see directly above the jail. There will be a little group of shops in this port city. A magic shop where you can buy runes for casting spells. A Jewelry shop where you can later sell the amulets, rings and necklaces that you will be able to craft as your skills improve. A few other shops and structures are there, but be sure you go to the FISHING SHOP. This is where you will be able to get fishing supplies that you will need to Net, Fly Fish, Bait fish, trap Lobsters and eventually harpoon Tuna and Swordfish. So make note of where this is.

Once you familiarize yourself with the port, look around the docks and you will see several areas where you can board ships. The only trip on the seas you can access right now is the one to Kajarma. Once you find the group of Sea men who ask if you would like a trip there for 30 gold coins, get 30 gold.  If you dont have 30 G.P. on you go behind the fishing shop area and kill goblins until you collect enough. (Or you may try to ask passing characters for the money if you are polite and find the right person.)  Pay the fare to the Seamen (any one dressed in blue) and you will be taken on a ship ride to the Island.

IF YOU CAN’T raise the money to take the trip easily, I will continue on right back here on the docks, as you would return here from the Island, before we press on to Draynor Village and it’s creepy manor. So just pick up again at the my post by that name.

Next…Kajarma!

Runescape Noob Mining, Rimmington, and The Crafting Guild!

Runescape City guides, Get to Know Free World, Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

craft-guild.png Soon you will be able to get into this Crafting paradise!

OK, having left the South exit of Fally, we went south to the chicken farm. The road right below that splits off in 2 directions- going to the west will take you to the crafting guild. Here you can craft pottery, spin wool and mine precious metals to raise your crafting expertise. You will need a high level of Crafting to get in. Getting in any guild takes skills and practice . You’ll be able to see inside the wall of the guild’s outside porch that there are lots of Gold Ore and Silver Ore as well. Can’t wait to get at that!

Directly North of the Crafting Guild is the Makeover Mage, who will redo your body type and skin color etc., if you find yourself unhappy with the looks you chose during the tutorial or just want a change of pace. Head back to the road that has a fence on both sides and make your way to the opening that leads South.

Here you find a pretty good sized Mining Area- lots to pick from here, but sometimes it’s crowded, like most mining areas can be, on busy traffic days for the world you logged onto. Switching worlds can help avoid crowds sometimes.

Just outside the fenced area of the Mine is the little hamlet called Rimmington. You’ll spot a portal outside a the Gen. Store that is used to get to your custom designed house if you are a member and utilize the Construction Skill. This tiny town is where Holiday Events have been happening for the last year or so. These events take place on Halloween, Christmas and Easter. You get special items and new emoticons, they are pretty fun, so be sure when there is an event- that you log in some time when it is running (Usually about a 2 week window ) so you don’t miss out on getting something cool. Last Halloween’s skull mask and skeleton suit were pretty neat. There is also a man there who will replace any item you get for holidays, but lose somehow, or just get rid of to make room in your bank.

Between the Crafting Guild and Rimmington is a big building that won’t let you inside unless you have completed a certain Quest. ( There will be a whole Quest section on this site soon) That is Melzars Maze-lots of fun for Noob training.

From Rimmington, follow the coast of the peninsula south. You’ll pass a church to recharge your prayer points, and on the beach there will be a couple of fishing spots where you will use nets to harvest shrimp and sardines when you decide to start your Fishing career.

Another important feature of interest is on the hillside Southeast of the fishing spots. This is the entrance to the Ice giants cave. Be careful in there or you’ll get a free trip to Lumbridge by dying in this dungeon area (again marked by an exclamation point) so when exploring such places-put your stuff in the bank so you won’t lose it.

If you didn’t notice the jail while while you were passing the church head North to it and check it out.

Next!…the docks area and the seaside city of Port Sarim!

East Falador and the Road to Port Sarim!

mining-guild-entrance.png Get in here and you can make some serious cash!

Runescape’s Falador is a great Training Ground

Now that you’ve seen Fally Castle, go east to the Mining Guild entrance.  Dwarf Guards will tell you that you need a high level of mining to enter here. But if you care to make some money, this is somewhere you eventually want to gain entrance to.  Mining is a good way to earn income on Runescape.

In the Northeast corner of Falador is the party room. Jagex added this to free world play pretty recently. The only one party game  before this one was in Camelot- on members worlds. This can be super cool if there is a bunch of people there. Some people regularly plan events there that are listed on the Runescape site. (See  the links on this site)

The concept is, after talking to the fellow there, anyone can put some treasure( almost anything can be deposited)  in the party chest.

When a party is started, (The dude will explain how) Tons!of balloons fall down from the ceiling and you and other players are to start stomping on them! Whatever was put into the chest, these items will be inside of random balloons. Lots of them are empty-but the more items that are inside the chest when the balloons are released- the less empty ones there will be, see? So if you squash one with something someone has “donated” to the party, you get to pick it up.

This is why it’s fun when alot of people participate, and hopefully people with good stuff to put into the chest! Even if you don’t have any valuable stuff, it’s fun to put in something anyway, I’ve gotten things from a range starting with Sardines all the way to a Rune medium helm, Not a bad prize, and I’ve seen people who are rich put in whole sets of high armor!

You can also pay to see a funny cutscene and music “video” where Knights will do a line dance routine that’s pretty amusing. =) Now, once you get all the possibilities out of your sytem, let’s move on down south. You’ll see a basically empty litte villa area with plenty of Cooking Ranges. And you’ll notice the “east bank”, the bank above the Mining Guild entrance. Find the South exit of Falador, and we can go to the next area, where I got lost a bunch of times, (Maybe it’s me).

This area of the Runescape Map is called Asgarnia, fom the city of Falador heading south all the way to Mudskipper Point. Now guys, if your looking at the Map, and I stress this alot in the beginner levels for a reason because it sucks to get lost, you can see 3 diffrent routes. If you are following the roads (As you should be), go down South to the Chicken Farm! Ok, here you are,  a low level character on a new game, and you’re reduced to killing chickens??

Well, its a good and simple way to collect food, that you can stockpile in the bank and use for later training, quests and fun stuff.

But here’s the clincher for a good day at the chicken ranch- You need feathers to Fish for the best fishing food on the game at the lower levels. This is definately the best way to start raising your Fishing, Cooking, and woodcutting skills in a place where you can kill stuff to train, collect food and raise  cooking levels all at once. So come here and waste and barbecue many chickens to raise food if you need to.

Collect an inventory full of birds and take a short run back up to the city to cook them if you need food.

Port Sarim and it’s surrounding territories are next!

falador_intro.jpg Kill the Knights in Fally castle with other players!

http://www.runescape.com/aff/windowsclient/worldmap/popupworldmap.ws

(If the above link does not work for you, simply use the world map button at the top of the game’s screen)

Click on the link above and find Falador on the worldmap, folks, and lets head there to see White Knights, a place to modify your character’s appearance, the entrance to the best Coal Mine in the free-to -play (F2P) world and lots of other cool things. Now if your looking at the map, we last discussed Barbarian Village, so head west on the road. If you have gotten lost, just cast your Lumbridge Home Teleport spell. (discussed in Jan. 25 post) and follow my directions in these posts to get to where we are now.

As you travel West, up North of you will be Ice Mountain, the Dwarven Mines, and the Black Knights Fortress. You can see where these are on the map, but on the game’s road itself you will see a few meandering dwarves, and may want to attack one. Stay on this road though because I’m giving you the full-circle tour of main roads that will make Runescape navigation much easier later on when you want to wander around finding things to kill or when you start doing Quests.

When you come to the end of this road, it will lead you South past a barricade wall and down a set of steps. Then you will see a little courtyard with a statue in the center and 3 ways to go. This is a good Landmark to get used to for finding the entrance to Falador, or “Fally” as players have nicknamed it. Simply head South and you will be there.

Upon entering the gates you will see the usual city proper stuff, a bank, general store, ect. And the barber shop where you can customize different hairstyles and beard styles if you have enough gold. Just talk to the barber. East of these buildings a couple of clicks, are a Shield shop and an important little building, marked in your mini-map on the screen by the “furnace” icon (use the KEY on the minimap and start recognizing these icons) this is the best place to train and raise your Smithing skill later on as you play. Across from that is a tavern. Directly South is the bridge to the White Knights’ Castle.

When you get into your 20’s levels or higher these whight knights are a fun and profitable thing to train on. The cool deal here is that it’s a Multiplayer area. When you walk inside the main courtyard of the castle, look at the bottom righthand corner of your screen and you will see an icon of two crossed swords. Anytime you see that, multiple players are allowed to attack the same creature. So if you aren’t that strong- you and other players can team up on the Knights. The first one to attack is the only one the Knight will hit back!

This is, like all the castles, a fun place to explore with many rooms and several different floors. You will start Quests in different places within ALL the different castles on Runescape, so look around them and become familiar with the different Kings of the cities.

Next we’ll look at the East half of Falador and check out the Mining Guild entrance and the Party Room!

Barbarian Village and Edgeville

Runescape City guides, Get to Know Free World, Runescape Guides, Tips, Walkthroughs, and Help No Comments »

barbarian_village.jpg Go toe-to toe with male and female barbarians on their turf!

Ok gang, here we go to the next city on the tour here, a little place called Edgeville, and it’s neighbor Barbarian Village. Just exit the west gate of Varrok and continue on that road until you cross a bridge that crosses Runescape’s Lum River. You will see alot of tough looking muscle bound barbarian men and women bearing huge axes. The tavern there will be a good place to train later on, but the important thing to note here is the fishing spots on the river just outside the bar.

Here is where you will build up your all-important fishing skill to begin with. You will also notice in front of the tavern a small mining area and in the middle of that an entrance to the second dungeon area on our tour. This is a fairly recently added feature called the Security Dungeon. Jagex decided to add this in order to teach players about how to keep their accounts secure. There was a big problem at one time with people getting the passwords of other players (mostly noobs) and stealing their stuff!

They did a very nice job and created a nice place for free players to train on a bunch of new monsters, learn security procedures, and get a neat “skull staff” item. And also, when you are tough enough to get to the bottom level of this dungeon you will earn a cool pair of either combat, or rainbow Boots, which cannot be bought or sold, and are very cool to wear.

Again , when exploring at this point dont take anything with you that you want to lose-leave your stuff in the bank so you can explore freely without worrying about losing items if you die. You may want to look around the Security dungeon for a while. When you’re done head up north to to take a look at the Edgeville Dungeon (again marked by a red exclamation point) This is a biggie on the free world. You will spend lots of time training here and having fun.

Once you’ve looked around in there for a bit- if you haven’t died, go up and see the actual little city of Edgeville. It’s called that because it is on the edge of the Wilderness! When you eventually can do things like mine or train in the wildy- this will be the bank you come to to store your booty and stock up on supplies. You will see some Unicorns and other creatures running around this area too.

OK kiddies, return to the road in front of the tavern and head west. We’re about to see The city of Falador!
